Ski tour in Val Gelada

A classic and highly rewarding itinerary, Val Gelada offers an ascent immersed in a true high-mountain environment that alternates sparse woods, wide basins, and broad slopes just a stone’s throw from Madonna di Campiglio. An ideal tour for those with some ski-mountaineering experience, looking for a complete and varied route with great views in one of the more remote corners of the Brenta Dolomites.

The tour starts from Campo Carlo Magno, where you put skins on right away and follow the forest road that enters the woods with a gentle, flat approach toward Malga Mondifrà. After an initial narrow section, the valley gradually opens up, revealing the long basin whose regular gradient defines the first half of the ascent.

Once the basin is climbed, the slopes become gentler and the Bocchetta dei Tre Sassi pass - the endpoint of the tour — comes into view. The panorama is magnificent: the valley is framed between the northern faces of Cima Vagliana and Pietra Grande, and the southern sides of Sasso Alto and Corno di Flavona, the wildes side of the Brenta Dolomites

The descent follows the ascent route: a sequence of wide, enjoyable slopes, often with well-preserved snow thanks to the favorable exposure. A rewarding ski run, especially in the central part of the basin, where the gradient is perfect for a confident skier.

With safe snow conditions, it is possible to descend along the eastern side and complete a loop returning to Passo del Grostè.
