Ski mountaineering tour with descent along the Pisganino – Pisgana Pass

The Pisganino is a highly rewarding ski mountaineering tour, comparable to many classics of the Western Alps, and ideal for those who want to approach high-altitude ski touring.

Ascent

From Passo del Tonale, take the lifts up to Passo Presena (3,000 m). From here, the first off-piste descent begins, leading to Rifugio Mandrone; the panorama is remarkable, with sweeping views over the three Lobbies, the Pian di Neve and Cresta Croce.
After a short break, put the skins back on and climb up to Passo Pisgana (2,933 m). The ascent is about 500 vertical meters and should be taken calmly: the altitude can be felt by those who are not used to it, and the terrain requires several kick turns on the way up.

Descent

From the pass begins the most anticipated part of the day. The first section follows what remains of the Vedretta del Pisganino, a wide valley where powder snow can often be found even in late spring. Lower down, the route joins the classic descent line of the Pisgana Glacier: the terrain becomes more varied, with small shrubs and gentle changes in gradient. In the final section, you enter the return track that leads to the valley cross-country ski trail. A flat stretch of about 20 minutes brings you back to the lift that returns to Passo del Tonale, completing a fulfilling circular tour.
