Cima-Tosa

Duration: 2 days
Cima Tosa – Normale route
Cima Tosa is one of the most iconic peaks in the Brenta Dolomites. The Normal Route, also known as the "Chimney Route", is a rewarding and well-rounded alpine ascent, combining high-altitude hiking, easy rock climbing sections, and the spectacular scenery of the Dolomites.
The climb is usually organised over two days, with an overnight stay at Rifugio Tosa Pedrotti, in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites. The route follows the south-east side of the mountain through a succession of ledges, rocky terraces and the characteristic chimneys of the normal route, eventually reaching the broad summit plateau and the summit cross. The descent follows the same route and includes a few short abseils on the steeper sections.
Day 1
Meeting in Madonna di Campiglio and hike to Rifugio Tosa Pedrotti via the Vallesinella Valley. Alternatively, the hut can be reached from Molveno.
Dinner, overnight stay and briefing for the summit climb on the following day.
Day 2
Early departure from the hut and approach to the start of the route (approximately 1.5 hours). The climb follows the characteristic chimneys and easy rock climbing sections (grade II), before continuing along ledges and rocky terraces to the summit of Cima Tosa.
After enjoying the spectacular views over the Brenta Dolomites, the Adamello–Presanella range and the Central Alps, the descent follows the same route, including a few short abseils. Return to the hut and then back to the valley.
The Normal Route on Cima Tosa is technically straightforward, yet it offers a complete and varied alpine experience. Easy climbing sections and basic ropework are combined with mountain hiking, creating an ideal itinerary for those wishing to approach the great Dolomite ascents or gain experience in a true alpine environment.
