Castelletto Inferiore – normal route

Castelletto Inferiore – normal route

Level: Intermediate

Castelletto Inferiore is one of the most distinctive peaks in the Brenta Dolomites and rises directly above the Tuckett Hut with the unmistakable shape of its south face. This classic climb combines enjoyable scrambling and climbing, spectacular scenery, and a logical line of ascent, making it one of the best choices for those wishing to experience traditional Dolomite mountaineering for the first time (maximum grade III+).

Starting from Madonna di Campiglio, the Grostè lift takes us up to 2,500 metres. From there, an easy one-hour walk leads to the Tuckett Hut. The route starts at the base of a prominent crack system that cuts through the lower section of the wall. The first pitches follow chimneys and gullies, taking advantage of the natural weaknesses of the face. After reaching a comfortable ledge, a second series of chimneys and gullies leads progressively to the west shoulder of the mountain (with the possibility of leaving the route at this point if necessary).

From here, a magnificent traverse follows the easiest line across the face, leading to the summit through varied and enjoyable climbing. The descent is made on the opposite side by a series of abseils, completing an elegant and satisfying route.

Although the technical difficulties are never high, the climb offers all the classic ingredients of Dolomite mountaineering: route finding, chimney climbing, exposed traverses, and continuous views across the Brenta Dolomites.

The mountain’s position provides outstanding scenery throughout the ascent, with the Tuckett Hut visible below the face and increasingly wide views opening onto the main peaks of the Brenta group.

A rewarding climb and an excellent introduction to classic Dolomite mountaineering, set in one of the most beautiful corners of the Brenta Dolomites.
