Three-Day Ski Mountaineering Adventure in the Heart of the Adamello Glacier

The Adamello, with its vast glacial plateau, offers one of the most striking high-altitude environments in the Eastern Alps for ski mountaineering enthusiasts. This three-day tour is designed to fully immerse yourself in the mountain, spending two nights in the heart of the glacier at Rifugio Lobbia and finishing with one of the most iconic descents in the entire Alpine arc: the Pisgana.

Below is a general programme, which may be adapted based on the physical and technical level of participants and current weather and snow conditions:

Day One – Ascent to Rifugio Lobbia

The tour begins at Passo del Tonale, using the lifts to quickly reach Passo Presena (3,000 m). From here, we enjoy an initial descent to Rifugio Mandrone (2,450 m). After switching to climbing mode and putting on skins, we start the ascent through wide open spaces and gentle slopes until reaching the base of the Adamello Glacier (Pian di Neve).
We then continue uphill to Rifugio Lobbia, perched on a rocky spur at over 3,000 metres. For the fitter participants, it’s also possible to climb the nearby Cresta Croce.

Day Two – Ascent of Monte Adamello or Corno Bianco

The goal for the day is to reach one of the major peaks of the range: Monte Adamello or, alternatively, the nearby Corno Bianco. The route unfolds in a pristine glacial environment, with vast horizons and incredible views. From the summit, you can admire the entire Adamello massif and, on clear days, the views stretch as far as the Bernina and the Ortles-Cevedale groups.
The descent follows the same route back to Rifugio Lobbia.

Day Three – Descent of the Pisgana Glacier

We set off towards Passo Venezia, crossing once again the vast glacial plateau. Once we reach Passo Valletta, an extraordinary line opens up in front of us: a continuous descent of nearly 2,000 metres of vertical drop, flowing through channels, bowls and wide glacial basins all the way towards the village of Ponte di Legno.
With good snow cover, it is often possible to ski almost directly into town. Return to Passo del Tonale by lifts.
